Barry Read, the longest-serving CEO of the UK’s Paper Industry Technical Association (PITA), died unexpectedly in late January. In a career spanning over four decades, he worked in a paper mill (Bridgewater), on the supply side to the industry (Stephenson Recycling Chemicals and Cross & Bevan), then he embarked on a long and successful career as a consultant under the guise of the Fibre Technology Association, before joining PITA as CEO in 2008. A tireless champion of all bio-fibre industries, in particular he worked hard to promote paper, board, moulded fibre and similar materials, both at home and abroad, and his passing has come as a huge shock to countless people across the world. He is already missed!
