Saica Pack launches an automatic vertical warehouse at its new plant in Scotland, installed by Duro Felguera Logistic Systems

Saica Group now has a pioneering facility in the United Kingdom, more capable and able to offer a better service to its customers

Saica Pack will improve its service to its customers, thanks to the fully automatic vertical storage system for corrugated board (WIP – work in progress), installed by Duro Felguera Logistic Systems, the business unit of Duro Felguera that specialises in the development of automatic storage systems. This project has been developed for the new state-of-the-art facility of Saica Pack, the division of the Saica Group specialising in corrugated cardboard packaging, in Livingston, Scotland. It is the first project that Duro Felguera has delivered in the United Kingdom.

Duro Felguera Logistic Systems, the business unit of Duro Felguera that specialises in the development of automatic storage systems, has successfully completed its first project in the United Kingdom: a fully automatic vertical storage system for corrugated board (WIP – work in progress) for the new state-of-the-art facility of Saica Pack, the division of the Saica Group specialising in corrugated cardboard packaging, in Livingston, Scotland.

The automated warehouse, designed for Saica Pack, is made up of a self-supporting racking system 21m high, 20m wide and 50m long, distributed over 8 levels and two independent aisles, in each of which operates an ESVA T2C-3000 stacker crane.

These automatic machines are entirely designed, manufactured, programmed and commissioned by Duro Felguera and are characterised by their superior quality, robustness, reliability and easy maintenance.

The Warehouse Management System (WMS), also designed and developed by Duro Felguera and adapted to the needs of Saica Pack, allows the management of up to two different orders per rack cell, which results in greater versatility and better optimisation of the use of the space available for storage, even for low volume orders, increasingly common nowadays.

The project was successfully developed despite the adversity of external factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit, which were overcome thanks to the professionalism and effort of the Duro Felguera team combined with a collaborative and trusting partnership with Saica Pack, which contributed decisively to the successful completion of the work.

Another key factor was the alignment, collaboration and understanding between Duro Felguera and AVANTI (supplier of the handling systems).

The project has contributed to what is one of the most modern warehouses in the UK, including numerous state-of-the-art technologies.
