A postage stamp celebrates SOFIDEL: 60 years of Italian Excellence that “never ends”

The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy recognizes the Group among the “Excellences of the production system and Made in Italy”, testifying to a history that combines Italian roots, global vision, innovation, and sustainability.

The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has issued an ordinary postage stamp belonging to the thematic series “Excellences of the production system and Made in Italy” dedicated to tissue producer  Sofidel, one of the world leaders in the production of paper for hygienic and domestic use.

This prestigious recognition celebrates the 60th anniversary of the company’s founding. Established in 1966 by Emi Stefani and Giuseppe Lazzareschi in Porcari, in the province of Lucca—an area rich in skills and industrial traditions related to papermaking—Sofidel has become an international leader in tissue paper products.

The Group, which has grown by making sustainability a strategic driver for development—with a commitment reflected in every stage of the value chain, from responsible forest management to energy and water efficiency in its plants, and the progressive reduction of its carbon footprint—is now present in 12 European countries and 12 US states. It employs over 9,500 people, with its roots still firmly anchored in Italy and the Lucca paper district, one of the largest in the world.

The stamp, printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato S.p.A. (the Italian State Mint), depicts one of the Group’s main Italian factories, the large Soffass converting plant on Via Fossanuova in Porcari. This is where the Group’s most famous brand, Regina, is produced—a brand that became a part of Italian pop culture with the famous catchphrase “Rotoloni Regina: they never end!”. The top section features the Sofidel logo alongside its founding year (1966).

The stamp issue was presented yesterday in Rome at the headquarters of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, during an event introducing several stamps dedicated to a series of excellences from the Italian manufacturing landscape, in the presence of Minister Adolfo Urso.

“With these stamp issues, we recognize companies that represent the quality, manufacturing capability, and strength of Made in Italy worldwide. These are diverse industrial histories, yet united by a common thread: their link to the territory, the continuity of tradition, and the ability to innovate. The philatelic program is also just that: a tool to tell the story of the nation’s industrial identity and commit to collective memory the excellences that have contributed to Italy’s growth,” declared Minister Adolfo Urso.

“We view the issuance of this stamp as the recognition of a journey of growth that has successfully combined local roots and global vision, tradition and innovation,” said Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of Sofidel. “Our Group, still led by the families that founded it 60 years ago and with the third generation already active in the company, looks to the future with the same confidence and determination that have accompanied us since day one, with the desire to continue working to promote responsible and lasting industrial growth, respecting both the environment and people.”

Paola Stefani, President of Sofidel, added: “This stamp celebrates an industrial group, but above all the ingenuity, dedication, and passion of all the people who have contributed and continue to contribute daily to Sofidel’s history, including all stakeholders in the supply chain. It is a tribute to the value of Made in Italy, and to the ability to innovate, compete, and create value on an international scale.”
