The Fastmarkets Forest Products Europe Conference 2026 opened today in Barcelona, bringing together more than 300 senior decision-makers from across the pulp, paper and packaging value chain for three days of market intelligence, strategic debate and networking.
Organised by Fastmarkets, the conference runs from March 9 to 11 and gathers mills, recyclers, converters, traders, technology suppliers, brand owners and policymakers to discuss the key challenges shaping the European forest products industry.
This year’s agenda focuses on several strategic themes affecting the sector. Participants will examine the implications of persistent overcapacity and consolidation in paper and board markets, shifts in demand from FMCG brands and retailers, and the growing pressure to innovate in packaging design and materials. Discussions will also address the impact of major European regulations—including PPWR, EUDR and CSRD—on trade flows, supply chains and sustainability reporting.
Other sessions will explore circularity and the role of the forest products sector in Europe’s bioeconomy, as well as the consequences of volatile energy prices, logistics challenges and evolving global trade dynamics. Industry leaders and economists are expected to share forecasts and strategic insights for the coming years.
During the event, Andy Silvernail, CEO of International Paper, will officially receive the European CEO of the Year award. The distinction was announced earlier this year and recognises leadership within the European forest products industry.
Widely regarded as one of the key annual gatherings for the European pulp, paper and packaging community, the event offers participants an opportunity to benchmark strategies, exchange market insights and discuss how the sector can remain competitive while accelerating its transition toward a more sustainable and circular future.
