The Saica group has inaugurated the biomass boiler of the Venizel paper mill

This new equipment contributes to a 71% reduction in CO2 emissions from the paper mill and a 89% reduction in natural gas consumption, replaced by renewable energy and recovery. In mid-September, Ramón Alejandro, Chairman of the Saica Group, inaugurated the new biomass boiler at the Saica Paper mill in Venizel in the presence of local authorities and Ademe representatives. The new equipment, winner of the call for projects of Ademe “BCIAT 2016” as part of the “Heat Fund”, and supported by the Hauts-de-France Region, represents an investment of 41 million euros to date.
This biomass boiler makes it possible to produce all the energy necessary for the operation of the Venizel paper mill from products that were not previously recovered or sent to landfill. This new equipment uses 75,000 tonnes of end-of-life wood and 26,000 tonnes of by-products from the pulp preparation. The territorial anchoring of the plant is reinforced: the 280,000 tonnes of paper and board to be recycled used for the manufacture of the pulp are collected within a radius of 150 kilometers, and the 75,000 tonnes of end-of-life wood. within a radius of 80 kilometers.
The new equipment contributes fully to sustainable development, with: • a 71% reduction in CO2 emissions from the site (46,500 tonnes per year);

  • An 89% reduction in natural gas consumption, replaced by renewable energy and recovery.
    In France, Saica owns 22 production sites, all activities combined, and employs nearly 2,300 direct employees. In the Hauts-de-France region, the group is located in Venizel (Paper and Pack), Doullens (Pack) and Poix-de-Picardie (Pack). These 4 sites represent 486 direct jobs.
