New AI Assistant Enhances Access to Verified Technical Knowledge Across the Forest-Based Bioeconomy Value Chain

The pulp, paper, board and bio‑based industries are undergoing rapid digital transformation, driven by increasing process complexity, growing sustainability requirements, and globally distributed operations. To support this development, the ForestBioFacts digital learning environment has launched a new AI Assistant designed to strengthen human–technology collaboration, where digital tools support rather than replace human expertise.

ForestBioFacts is the world’s most comprehensive digital learning environment for the forest‑based bioeconomy. Its vast knowledge base is now more accessible than ever following the launch of the AI Assistant in connection with the on-going international Pulp & Beyond 2026 event at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre on 15 April 2026.

The AI Assistant supports easier navigation of complex technical information, enables personalised learning paths for different roles and experience levels, and improves access to knowledge for international teams, students and researchers working across languages and time zones, to mention a few of its benefits.

The effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence in technical learning environments depends on access to trustworthy, verified source material. ForestBioFacts’ AI Assistant searches information exclusively within ForestBioFacts, where the content is based on scientifically validated data and practical experience from industrial, educational and research organisations. Around 200 experts from industry and academia have contributed to approximately 1,700 articles across 16 thematic areas since its launch in 2020.

“AI‑supported digital learning environments can contribute to competence development, knowledge accessibility and decision support. ForestBioFacts’ AI Assistant is built on expert‑reviewed content, and all search results include direct links to the source material, ensuring transparency and trust in the information provided,” tells Vera Hallikainen, Development Manager at the Finnish Forest Products Engineers’ Association, the organisation behind ForestBioFacts.

By supporting continuous learning, strengthening human expertise and enhancing organisational knowledge resilience, AI‑enabled digital learning tools can become a key element of digital transformation and a strategic asset for organisations operating in knowledge‑intensive industries.

To hear more about the AI Assistant, join us at Pulp & Beyond’s Speaker’s Corner stage on 16 April at 13:00, featuring a presentation titled “New Eucalyptus Fibre Content in an AI‑Powered ForestBioFacts” by Professor Pedro Fardim (KU Leuven), joined on stage by Development Manager Vera Hallikainen, or visit our booth 5A26.
