In July, the Besançon Commercial Court granted a second six-month observation period to the French company Gemdoubs – extending it to January 2027 – to allow the company to present its business continuity plan. Based in Novillars (eastern France), the company, which produces approximately 100,000 tonnes per year of Corrugated Case Material (CCM) on a single paper machine, entered court-ordered restructuring in early January.
“Confident in the company’s future, the shareholders did not hesitate to support our highly motivated team during this period, which is ultimately a phase of consolidating the intrinsic strengths we have leveraged since our acquisition,” explained Fady J. Gemayel (picture), the company’s president, speaking to “La Papeterie Mag”. “We aim to consolidate our strategy of focusing on specialized papers (TL1, HP fluting, duo, honeycomb, etc.) as well as heavy grammages (starting at 135 g/m²). Gemdoubs also benefits from biomass-generated steam thanks to a partnership established with Cogénération Biomasse de Novillars (CBN). Our paper mill is positioned for long-term sustainability, serving both the region and our customers, ranging from major corporate groups to independent corrugated board producers. We will emerge from this phase stronger and look to the future with great confidence.” Finally, the company is now led by Marc Émeraud, who brings experience in the French corrugated board industry gained notably at Seyfert Provence (2019-2022) and Europac (Gagny site, 2015-2019). He succeeded Laurent Grenier, who retired at the end of July.
