RDM Group strenghens its green energy policy

In 2021 the Group’s Italian plants will purchase electricity from renewable sources only

RDM Group , the Italian producer of coated recycled cartonboard, reinforces its commitment to an energy policy based on the use of renewable sources, increasing the energy efficiency of production activities and modernizing industrial processes to make them sustainable.

For this purpose, starting from 2020, and for all its Italian board mills (Santa Giustina, Villa Santa Lucia and Ovaro) as well as for the Magenta sheeting centre, RDM Group has launched a program to purchase carbon free electricity. The program will continue in 2021 with the purchase of 100% green electricity (solar, wind and hydro). The energy purchased is certified “green,” according to EU standards by the Italian Energy Services Agency (GSE).

RDM Group’s objective is to reduce its own emissions, including indirect emissions resulting from the electricity purchased from the national grid. This is clearly an objective as ambitious as it is essential for a company like RDM Group, which makes sustainability its core business.

In this sense, the challenge is to extend this program to other countries where the Group has production plants, i.e. France, Germany and Spain.

At the same time, RDM Group is pursuing its energy efficiency program in all its board mills. In the internal production of heat and converted energy, the efficiency of cogeneration plants far exceeds European standards, reaching 93% efficiency in the energy content of the fuel used.

Since 2012, the performances of cogeneration plants of Italian mills are certified annually by GSE according to the strict European standard for the recognition of high efficiency cogeneration (CHP cogeneration high performance).

Indeed, RDM Group is aware of the many global challenges that are arising and for which the circular economy, together with today’s megatrends (sustainability, digitalisation and automation), can be an important answer. That’s why RDM Group wants to make its own contribution, as it is aware that being able to respond to these megatrends is a sign of resilience and foresight at the same time.
