Paper machine conversion project at Norske Skog Bruck – Conversion of PM 3 to recycled container board production together with Bellmer

Norske Skog is a world leading producer of publication paper with strong market positions and customer relations in Europe and Australia. The Norske Skog group operates four mills in Europe. In addition, the group operates one publication paper mill and one wood pellets facility in Australasia.

The group has approximately 2.100 employees in five countries, is headquartered in Norway and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Norske Skog will enter the European packaging markets in Q4 2022. Paper Machine 3 at the Bruck site in Austria will switch its production from newsprint to recycled containerboard. The increasing focus on environmentally conscious products and the continuous rise of online shopping have created a significant demand for renewable packaging solutions. The production of recycled containerboard in Bruck will meet this demand with cost-leading and environmentally friendly capacities. The containerboard products produced after the conversion will be marketed under the brand name “Strato”. The paper machine conversion will use the existing infrastructure at the site. The conversion at Bruck will introduce 210 000 tonnes of competitive containerboard capacity. Containerboard production will be based 100% on recycled fibres and use steam from a new incineration plant for refuse derived fuels (RDF), making Bruck a cost-leading and environmentally friendly energy producer.

Norske Skog commissioned Bellmer Group as its partner for the PM3 conversion project at Norske Skog Bruck.

A completely new stock preparation and the rebuild of the approach flow system support the energy-efficient concept. A new Top Former and a TurboPress shoe press ensure top paper quality. The Bellmer scope of supply is completed by a rebuild of the dryer section, a new TurboFilmSizer as well as a TurboReeler including Transporter, a TurboWinder and a new hood with energy-efficient steam and condensate system.
Production of recycled containerboard in Bruck PM3 will start in the fourth quarter of 2022 after a three-month production shutdown.
