Voith implements virtualization project at Softys Caieiras TM11 in Brazil

Voith announced that it is implementing a virtualization project that will modernize the automation system of Softys Caieiras’s tissue paper machine TM 11. By updating the machine’s DCS system, the solution will significantly improve its production performance. Last July, the customer’s team approved the project’s Manufacturing Acceptance Test (TAF) at Voith’ headquarters.

Virtualization is the technique by which one or more virtual servers run on top of a physical server, which allows for higher resource utilization density and improved application security. Virtualization is an important step towards improving process controls. Besides contributing to the plant’s technological evolution, it also serves as a gateway to the digital solutions of Industry 4.0.

Operating 19 tissue and personal care plants in 8 countries, Softys is present in 20 Latin American markets under 25 personal care and hygiene brands. It is Latin America’s second largest and the world’s eighth largest tissue paper producer, as well as a leading developer of daily care products and solutions that are used by more than 500 million people worldwide.

“We chose Voith for the convenience of having specialized professionals available in all knowledge areas, as well as its availability and ease of communication, both online as well as face-to-face”, says Giuliano Ribeiro, Automation/Electrical Specialist at Softys Caieiras. “Nowadays, markets demand quick responses, and this requires specialized knowledge and people. We want to collaborate with a market reference, a company that will provide us with the best knowledge, reliability, availability and security, and Voith covers it all,” adds Giuliano.

Virtualization provides the customer with a machine that is sturdy, always up to date, and above all, safe. This is a proven solution from Voith to improve customer performance and production”, points out Antonio Lemos, President of Voith Paper South America. “We are glad to have Softys Caieiras as one of our clients that have implemented this improvement”, he concludes.
