• The United Arab Emirates (UAE) paper industry continues to be vibrant. The country witnesses an incomparable economic growth translated among others by an increase in the
consumption of paper.
Production and printing of paper is generally done through the UAE to be exported to the whole Arab countries to fulfill the need of the increasing demand on manufacturing paper grades.
The paper conversion sector is also witnessing a boom, producing all major paper products from paper to tissue and cardboard that grows in becoming a high necessity.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the main cities in the UAE, are acquiring a high reputation and a leading position among other Gulf cities ; mainly due to their cost effectiveness
system and their geographical position assuring a speed delivery with high performance.
In this issue of Paper Middleast magazine, we will focus on the activity of Union Paper Mills (UPM) that manufactures packaging grades of paper.
The mill has 2 machines working in Dubai displaying the latest technologies producing high quality of Fluting and Testliner.
Although production capacity of Containerboard in the UAE is high but the paper industry market is growing tremendously and at a rapid pace.
Corrugated paper is being used for new patterns and flexible packaging is witnessing high demands. As a result, new products and higher production capacity are
being required to answer the market demand.
Following this fact, UPM management planned to increase their export to neighboring countries on the strength of their advanced world class machineries used
in the production process. In order to fulfill the market need, they invested in a third machine that will be installed in Abu Dhabi. We will look in the following
pages to Union Paper Mills and their actual manufacturing lines. A focus will be dedicated also to their new project mill in Abu Dhabi, and their PM3 on which production
is expected to be started in 2016.
