Reflecting on another strong first half for DS Smith

“As we move closer to the end of what has been an incredibly busy calendar year for DS Smith, earlier this morning, I was delighted to present our Half Year Results to the market.

The progress we’ve made in the first half of our financial year has been fantastic and a testament to our strategy and the way our people are executing on this. We have done well to recover our profits after a challenging previous year of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve also continued to win with our customers who have greatly valued the excellent service, agility and responsiveness that DS Smith provides.

There’s no doubt in my mind that we remain well positioned for further growth with sustainability at the heart of our business model underpinning this upward trajectory.

The pandemic has driven a huge change in how we shop and live with the surge in e-commerce showing no signs of slowing and the recent COP26 conference further accelerating a demand from our customers for new, climate friendly products. We continue to work closely with these customers to help them address their sustainability challenges, and our circular design principles, carbon reduction programme and focus on plastic replacement are allowing us to meet their increasing sustainability requirements with great effect.

To ensure we’re taking maximum advantage of our current growth drivers we’re investing in our products, capacity and supply chain and this gives us real confidence in the future to deliver continued top line growth and market share increases. New sites in Italy and Poland remain on track for production in the first half of 2022 and we are evaluating further customer driven opportunities.

Finally, in a challenging operating environment, I am pleased to see continuing good progress recovering from the direct and indirect impacts of COVID. Keeping our people safe remains the number one priority and I am proud of the way DS Smith has maintained our capacity throughout the pandemic with all plants remaining operational to date.

We’ve already made a strong start to our second half of the year and I look forward to providing a further update on the business’ performance at our Q3 Trading Update in March next year. For now, you can read more about our Half Year Results here.”
