The PM7 (Paper Machine) from Munksjö Caieiras, located in São Paulo, Brazil, has recently undergone a major modernization as part of the company’s ExpanDecor project, which is the largest investment in Munksjö’s history in Latin America. Runtech delivered ropeless tail threading system to PM7, featuring Runshooter technology with detailed engineering and startup support for the dryer section. With the upgrade Caieiras targeted more fluent and faster tail threading and improved operator safety.
“Our tail threading systems are installed end-to-end in the dryer section. The start-up wasn’t without its challenges—after such a long shutdown and so many upgrades, that’s to be expected. We worked closely with the customer and other partners to overcome the hurdles together and learned a lot along the way. It was a valuable experience, and we’re proud to see our system running smoothly. From the beginning, the customer was satisfied with the system. The first attempt took less than one minute to get the tail through the entire dryer section,” says Janne Helle, Installation Technician, Runtech Systems.
Runtech Systems’ ropeless tail threading technology offers numerous benefits. It significantly enhances operator safety and reduces tail threading time during web breaks by up to 80%, contributing to increased production. In many cases, the technology enables mills to boost machine speed: something that would not be feasible with manual tail threading without compromising operator safety. Additionally, the automated process allows operators to focus on other tasks. All these advantages contribute to a short payback period.
