Mondi has unveiled a new brand identity for Mondi Rotatrim, its signature multifunctional office paper and one of the most recognised premium paper brands in South Africa.
Mondi Rotatrim is renowned for its reliability, versatility and smooth surface. With a high whiteness level of 160 CIE and high quality, it delivers sharp and clear results — making it ideal for all office printing applications, from photocopying to high-volume laser and inkjet printing.
Where local design meets premium performance
Mondi Rotatrim’s new packaging features bold, modern visuals inspired by African designs, textures and patterns. More than a design evolution, the rebrand reflects a renewed focus on purpose-led growth; strengthening the local supply chain, reducing dependence on imports and supporting economic resilience.
While the look has been refreshed, the paper quality has also been enhanced with increased calliper to improve stiffness and performance. This reflects Mondi’s commitment to continuous product innovation while maintaining its long-standing compliance with both local and international standards.
Sustainability at the core
Born on the hills of Merebank in Durban, Mondi Rotatrim ensures that its production is held to the highest environmental standard through sound forestry practices. Known for its premium print quality, FSC™ certification and Level 1 contributor status under South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) framework, Mondi Rotatrim has been a trusted brand in homes, schools and businesses for more than three decades.
Now proudly Cradle to Cradle Certified® at the Bronze level, Mondi Rotatrim meets rigorous global standards for material health, circularity, clean air and climate protection, water stewardship and social fairness—reinforcing our commitment to a more sustainable future. In 2024, Mondi South Africa and WWF South Africa extended their 30-year partnership for another three years, committing over €680,000 to advance water stewardship and climate resilience initiatives. Mondi’s strong commitment to sustainability is also reflected in how it manages its forests and drives collaborative initiatives. 100% of Mondi’s forestry plantations in South Africa are FSC™ and PEFC certified, supporting responsible forest management practices.
Empowering communities through Mondi Zimele
At the heart of Mondi Rotatrim’s story is a powerful supply chain rooted in community and social impact. Through its enterprise development arm, Mondi Zimele, the company supports thousands of small-scale timber growers, many in rural KwaZulu-Natal, who are empowered to become active partners in the Mondi Rotatrim value chain.
“What makes Mondi Rotatrim special isn’t just the world-class paper quality. It’s the journey behind it,” says Sandile Ngcobo, Public Affairs and Transformation Director at Mondi South Africa. “From small-scale growers to local manufacturing in Merebank, every step reflects our commitment to sustainability and meaningful transformation. This rebrand brings that story to the forefront, a celebration of the people and partnerships that build futures — one ream at a time.”
Since its launch in 2007, Mondi Zimele has supported over 3,800 small growers. In 2024 alone, Mondi sourced around 190,000 tonnes of timber from small rural holdings, roughly equivalent to 10% of Mondi South Africa’s wood requirements. Over 64,000 tonnes were certified by FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council). Additionally, 5.3 million seedlings were distributed and participants were offered training, mill visits, and field days focused on knowledge-sharing. Currently, 840 small growers supply FSC-certified pulpwood timber to the Mondi Richards Bay mill, with ongoing efforts to increase this number.
