European Containerboard Industry unveils Roadmap to Net Zero


The European containerboard industry has taken a significant step to further improve its sustainability credentials with the publication of its comprehensive roadmap to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions. This strategic plan outlines the key findings, commitments, and policy recommendations necessary to support the industry’s transition to a climate-neutral future by 2050.

Developed in collaboration with CLIMACT and industry experts, the roadmap highlights the essential role of energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, circular economy principles, and breakthrough technologies in decarbonizing containerboard production. By setting clear milestones, the industry aims to reduce its environmental footprint while maintaining competitiveness and ensuring the continued supply of high-quality, sustainable packaging base materials.

Key initiatives outlined in the roadmap include:
