ABB Pulp&Paper truck tour 2022: very positive outcome of the visit to Norpaper Blendecques in France

For the second year in a row, ABB teams went to meet paper customers to present its vision of the future of the paper industry. At the end of November, the ABB Pulp & Paper demonstration truck – specially designed for this purpose – made a stop at the Norpaper Blendecques production site in Pas-de-Calais (Northern France). Founded in 1865, Norpaper is the leading French independent producer of White Testliner. The product is manufactured using 100% recycled cellulose fibres at two production sites: one in the north of France, the second in Nantes (Western France).

For half a day, the entire Norpaper Blendecques team was able to discover all of ABB’s digital and automated solutions dedicated to the pulp and paper industry, all on board a truck. These visits are an opportunity to showcase ABB technologies designed to meet our customers’ key needs: cost reduction, increased productivity, improved operational efficiency and product quality.

In a fully automated, optimised and connected mill environment, with the addition of laboratory equipment and paper machine actuators, Norpaper Blendecques managers, operators and technicians followed the complete papermaking circuit: from pulp preparation to production control and quality control.

“This visit was instructive and very interesting for our teams, shares Mr. Epifani, Technical Director Norpaper Blendecques. This visit was an opportunity for our employees to (re)discover some of the equipment and processes in the production chain, but also to project themselves into the future with digital solutions to support their daily work. For my part, I knew ABB mainly for its drive systems such as motors and starters, which equip our paper machines at the Nantes site. So I appreciated having a global overview of ABB’s solution portfolio, right down to the Control Centre with an adjustable and ergonomic desk ready for future generations.”
