Valmet supplies baling line to Metsä Board's Kaskinen pulp mill in Finland

Valmet will deliver a baling line to Metsä Board’s pulp mill in Kaskinen, Finland. This is the second baling line Valmet installs at the mill and will be installed in parallel with the existing baling line. The new line will handle the increased capacity at the mill and is scheduled to start up in the end of 2018. The order was part of Valmet’s fourth quarter 2017 orders received.

The delivery consists of baling line main machinery including an automation solution to control the line. The existing line and the new line will share existing unitizer, which will gain increased speed. New wire cages will also be added along the existing line.

"We are waiting for Valmet’s newest technology to give us easier living and to help us to reach our goals," says Timo Rissanen, Mill manager at Metsä Board Kaskinen.

Stora Enso Wins Bio-Based Product of the Year for Lineo by Stora Enso

Lineo™by Stora Enso, a renewable replacement for oil-based phenolic materials, has been awarded ‘Bio-Based Product of the Year’ at the Bio-Based World News Innovation Awards 2018.

Shortlisted alongside products from Clean Plus Inc. and The Chemours Company, the judges recognised the potential of Lineo, made from versatile wood-based raw material lignin. Lineo can be used in a range of applications where fossil-based materials are currently used.

Officially launched earlier this year, Lineo by Stora Enso is a renewable, wood-based replacement for oil-based phenolic materials which are used in resins for plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), laminated veneer lumber (LVL), paper lamination and insulation material. Stora Enso has been industrially producing lignin since 2015 at its Sunila Mill in Finland. Sunila’s capacity is 50 000 tonnes per year, making Stora Enso the largest kraft lignin producer in the world.

Klippans Bruk AB chooses Recard for its facilities in Sweden

Recard will supply the new 30,000-tpy tissue machine to the historic company Klippans Bruk AB for its Klippan facilities in Sweden. Start-up of the complete turnkey plant, in a 3200-mm format and a speed of 1700 m/min, is scheduled for summer 2019.

The Klippan mill is specialized in the production of paper for colored table napkins that it supplies to customers worldwide. With the addition of the new machine by Recard – that will flank another machine already in operation – production will increase fourfold. A 15-million euro investment that will allow boosting the mill’s staff by 20-25 new employees and to strengthen the position of the Swedish company in the market.

For Recard, this is a great event, since it is the first tissue machine order signed for Sweden.

Decisions taken by Valmet Oyj's Annual General Meeting and Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting of Valmet Oyj was held in Helsinki today on March 21, 2018. The Annual General Meeting adopted the Financial Statements for 2017 and discharged the members of the Board of Directors and the President and CEO from liability for the 2017 financial year. The Annual General Meeting approved the Board of Directors’ proposals concerning authorizing the Board to decide on repurchasing company shares and to resolve on the issuance of shares and the issuance of special rights entitling to shares.

  • Dividend payment

The Annual General Meeting decided to pay dividends of EUR 0.55 per share for the financial period ended on December 31, 2017. The dividend will be paid to shareholders who on the dividend record date of March 23, 2018 are registered in the company’s shareholders’ register held by Euroclear Finland Ltd. The dividends will be paid on April 5, 2018.

  • Composition of the Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting confirmed the number of Board members as seven and appointed Bo Risberg as Chairman of Valmet Oyj’s Board and Aaro Cantell as Vice-Chairman. Monika Maurer and Pekka Kemppainen were appointed as new members of the Board. Rogério Ziviani, Tarja Tyni and Eriikka Söderström will continue as members of the Board. The term of office of the members of the Board of Directors expires at the close of the Annual General Meeting 2019.

  • Remuneration of the Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting decided that the annual remuneration payable to the members of the Board will be as follows : to the Chairman of the Board of Directors EUR 100,000 ; to the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors EUR 60,000 ; and to the other members of the Board of Directors EUR 48,000 each. Furthermore, the Annual General Meeting decided that a base fee of EUR 7,000 will be paid for each member of the Audit Committee, EUR 14,000 for the Chairman of the Audit Committee, EUR 4,000 for each member of the Remuneration and HR Committee, and EUR 6,000 for the Chairman of the Remuneration and HR Committee.

In addition, a meeting fee in the amount of EUR 700 will be paid for those members whose place of residence is in Nordic countries, EUR 1,400 for those members whose place of residence is elsewhere in Europe and EUR 2,800 for those members whose place of residence is outside of Europe for the Board meetings attended, including the meetings of the committees of the Board of Directors.

The Annual General Meeting resolved that, as a condition for the annual remuneration, the members of the Board of Directors are obliged, directly based on the Annual General Meeting’s decision, to use 40 percent of the fixed annual remuneration for purchasing Valmet Oyj shares from the market at a price formed in public trading and that the purchase will be carried out within two weeks from the publication of the interim review for the period January 1, 2018 to March 31, 2018.

  • Election of the auditor

The Annual General Meeting appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers Oy, authorized public accountants, as the company’s auditor for a term expiring at the end of the next Annual General Meeting. The responsible auditor will be Jouko Malinen, APA.

  • Decisions of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Valmet Oyj held its organizing meeting after the Annual General Meeting. The Board of Directors noted that all Board members are independent of the company. With the exception of Aaro Cantell, all other board members are independent of the company’s significant shareholders. Valmet’s definition of Board members’ independence complies with the Finnish Corporate Governance Code.

In its organizing meeting, the Board of Directors of Valmet Oyj elected the members of the Audit Committee and the Remuneration and HR Committee from amongst its members.

The members of the Audit Committee are Eriikka Söderström (Chairman), Tarja Tyni and Pekka Kemppainen.

The members of the Remuneration and HR Committee are Bo Risberg (Chairman), Aaro Cantell and Monika Maurer.

  • Personnel representation

Riina Vilander will participate in the meetings of Valmet’s Board of Directors as the personnel representative elected by Valmet’s personnel groups in Finland. Luigi Lazzareschi has been awarded the 2018 Radical Green Award

his accolade was granted to the CEO of the Sofidel Group
“for the merits attained by the company in terms of eco-sustainability and green thinking”.

The 2018 edition of the Radical Green Award went to Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of the Sofidel Group, with the award ceremony held on Friday in Trento, during Green Week, the festival-laboratory on the green economy promoted by Fondazione Symbola and ItalyPost, in collaboration with the Comune of Trento, Autonomous Province of Trento, University of Trento, Edmund Mach Foundation, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, MUSE Science Museum and Trentino Sviluppo.

The award was granted “for the merits attained by Sofidel in terms of eco-sustainability and green thinking over the years”.

The Sofidel Group announces a new strategic greenfield investment in Oklahoma

The Sofidel Group, one of the global leaders in tissue paper production for sanitary and household uses, strengthens its position in the US by announcing a new investment.

The company announced today a new “greenfield” investment for an integrated plant (tissue production and converting facilities) in Oklahoma. The new production site will be located in Inola, Rogers County, near the town of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Thanks to its South-Central position in the US, the area offers well-established logistics as well as affordable sources of energy and an expert workforce.

“I am glad to announce this new greenfield investment – the second one, after the first made in Ohio. This new investment will support our growth in the US significantly, being the American market one of the crucial ones for our Group” commented Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of Sofidel Group.

"Sofidel will build here a new, modern integrated plant to serve the South-Central and Central-Western areas of this great country, where we have been operating since 2012 and we have been growing year after year at a very fast pace. I would like to thank all the partners that have supported us in making this new project, they have played an integral role in helping us achieve this goal".

The investment refers to the installation of two tissue paper machines for an overall production capacity of 120,000 tonnes per year each, with related converting lines.

One machine will be dedicated mainly to toilet tissue production, while the second one will be used mostly to produce towels.

As a whole, Sofidel is committed to investing $ 360 million over three years (2018 – 2019 – 2020).

The facilities building is expected to start in March 2018 and will be completed by Q2 2020, while the converting lines and the warehouse functions will be in place by the end of Q2 2019.

The new production plant, once completed, will employ 300 full-time workers.

Valmet launches new chrome free Yankee cylinder metallizing coating

Valmet has developed a chrome-free Yankee cylinder coating, Valmet Infinikote-2 Yankee Metallizing, to improve work safety in the coating process and sustainability of the coating as well as to comply with potential future legislation both in the EU and the US. The new coating developed by Valmet is the environmentally safest Yankee metallizing coating available. 

High performance thermal spray coating increases Yankee cylinder efficiency and lifetime. The thermal spraying process of the new coating is the same as in Valmet’s previous Yankee cylinder metallizing coating but now the material being applied is completely chrome free. The new material does not contain any chrome and does not generate any hexavalent chrome during its application.

Valmet has over 20 years of experience in Yankee cylinder thermal spray coating. A recognized risk of metallizing has been that during the process potentially harmful hexavalent chromium is created. Chromium is a fundamental component of almost every ferrous based hard-facing alloy.

Yankee metallizing is often carried out on-site at the customer’s premises. "With the new chrome free Yankee cylinder coating we enhance work safety and are ready to comply with stricter environmental legislation," says Marko Heino, Director, Field Services, Valmet.

Valmet’s new generation of Yankee cylinder metallizing alloy contains no chromium-bearing constituents. "Test results with the new material are convincing, demonstrating significantly improved application characteristics and meeting or exceeding all our key objectives," says Andrew Cross, Senior Operations Manager, Global Yankee Services, Valmet.

In addition to being chromium free, the new Valmet Infinikote-2 Yankee Metallizing coating also boasts the following improvements : reduced dust production and fumes during its application and increased heat conductivity. It also provides a tougher and more wear resistant surface which prolongs the expected life time of the cylinder.

Valmet to supply a linerboard production line for WestRock Florence, South Carolina Mill in USA

Valmet will supply a linerboard production line with a wide automation package for WestRock Company at its mill in Florence, South Carolina, United States. The delivery will include a state-of-the-art kraft linerboard machine to replace three older, narrow-width paper machines.

The company anticipates the new machine will produce 644,000 metric tons (710,000 short t) of kraft linerboard annually. The investment will significantly increase the mill’s efficiency, end-product quality and service levels. When coupled with the recently completed modern woodyard, the Florence mill will become one of the lowest cost kraft linerboard mills in North America. Start-up of the new machine is scheduled for the first half of 2020.

The order is included in Valmet’s first quarter of 2018 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Start of construction of Paper Machine 2 at Hamburger Rieger GmbH in Spremberg. Approval procedures completed successfully.

In March 2018, Hamburger Rieger GmbH will start the scheduled construction of its second paper machine at its Spremberg location.
Following the project start and the first constructive measures as well as obtaining all permits last year, the start of construction was now approved. Containerboard’s successful development at the location as well as the continuously growing market were decisive factors in running this expansion project. The new plant’s commissioning is scheduled for summer 2020.
With an investment volume of around 370 million Euros, the scheme will create 200 jobs, 15 of which will be apprenticeships. The planned product range includes white and brown corrugated base papers (testliner) based on 100% recycled paper. With a width of 7.80 metres, the machine will produce 500,000 tonnes of paper per year. For the preparation of white base materials an environmentally friendly deinking section will be installed. It combines innovative resource-conserving raw material processing and the paper machine’s patented mode of operation.
“Since the start Paper Machine 1 we have consistently carried out all the necessary preparatory work for further expansion. Paper Machine 2 will allow us to further strengthen our ‘leadership in white’ positioning to more than one million tonnes of white corrugated base paper per year,” said Harald Ganster, Managing Director of Hamburger Containerboard.
As a sustainably operating paper, packaging and recycling enterprise, the Prinzhorn Group has a significant responsibility towards society. “In recent years we have invested some 420 million Euros into Hamburger Rieger, Dunapack Spremberg and SpreeRecycling at the Spremberg location and have thus directly created 500 jobs. Now, with our second paper machine, we increase our commitment to the location even further,” stated Cord Prinzhorn, CEO of the Prinzhorn Group.

Arctic Paper further invests in sustainable hydro power at Munkedal Mill

On the 12 th of March, the Management Board of Arctic Paper decided to invest 70 million SEK in an expansion of the hydro power plant at the Munkedal mill, strengthening the mill’s sustainability profile.
The investment will double the amount of Arctic Paper Munkedal ’s energy supply produced by environmentally friendly hydro power, which increases the mill’s energy self-sufficiency.
Completion of the project is planned for the last quarter of 2019.
"We believe paper is a material for the future, both as a medium for communication but also as a natural material based on renewable resources. The expansion of hydro power gives us sustainable energy at a reasonable cost, which strengthens our competitiveness, " says Per Skoglund, CEO of Arctic Paper S.A.
All necessary permissions are in place. During the construction phase the Group plans to finance the project out of its own funds. After completion of the project the costs will be refinanced with bank credit. Arctic Paper has already signed a letter of intent with Swedbank for refinancing.
Sustainability at Arctic Paper is always about the whole production process. The mill in Munkedal is an industry leader within water usage, using as littles as 3m3 per tonne of paper. Low, concentrated water flow requires less energy, and  doubling the use of environmentally friendly hydropower is a step towards
making the whole production process even more sustainable.
Arctic Paper Munkedal manufactures high quality uncoated, wood-free graphical paper, mainly under the Munken brand.  Munken is one of the most renowned brands and the product range caters to a wide spectrum of printing needs, in  particular book printing, advertising and marketing material. The mill has a production capacity of 160,000 tonnes.

Valmet Advantage ViscoNip and ReDry rebuild delivering top results at Alas Doradas, El Salvador

Valmet has successfully delivered and started up a rebuild of Alas Doradas’ PM4 tissue machine, close to San Salvador, El Salvador. The rebuild delivered top results right from the start. Targets were reached and surpassed already in the first week after the startup which was on January 23, 2018.
The main target of the project was to increase the production capacity and save energy. Now, with all facts on hand, the joint efforts to reach top results have really been fulfilled.

"We are very satisfied with the results of the rebuild project. The combination of Advantage ViscoNip and ReDry have exceeded our highest expectations. The results show capacity increase by 20% and drying energy savings of 20-25%," says Carlos Jerez, Engineering Director at Alas Doradas. "In addition, we have also seen significant quality improvements with bulk increase," Carlos continues.

The key to success comes from the synergy effect gained when combining two of Valmet’s foremost innovations. In this case, the energy saving Advantage ViscoNip press, which has a unique ability to adapt to the Yankee dryer shell, is boosted by the Advantage ReDry web heater. The Advantage ReDry further enhances dryness by utilizing exhaust air and humidity from the hood, to heat the web and thereby increase post pressure consistency.

"We are proud that Alas Doradas has selected our well proven Advantage technologies which have been truly spot-on for this upgrade," says Kent Nika and Sergio Vargas, Sales managers at Valmet.

Technical information about the delivery

Valmet’s delivery for the machine rebuild includes a replacement of the current suction press roll with an Advantage ViscoNip press and Advantage ReDry web heater for increased production capacity and decreased energy consumption. The rebuild also includes mist removal system, supervision, training, start-up and commissioning. It also features integration of the new equipment with the current automation systems.

New paper mill in Nigeria

From 2012-2017, Nigeria import 1.5 million tons paper with 1000 USD/ton price. With 200 millions populations, the paper produce capacity is much more behind of the consumption. This year, the 3rd Paper mill wich launch in Nigeria machinery, all the stock preparation with paper making line are made in China. The whole line has been ready and shipped, will be settled by the end of May. The new paper mill has 400 tons per day capacity, with produce T liner with 3 layers, 550 m/m speed.

Valmet receives orders for fifth and sixth successive containerboard machines from Nine Dragons in China

Valmet will supply two more containerboard production lines with related automation systems for Nine Dragons Industries Co., Ltd., China. The orders for the four previous machines were published in 2017 (PM 39 and PM 40, PM 41 and PM 42). The latest two production lines will be located in Dongguan (PM 43) and Quanzhou (PM 45) and are similar to the previous four containerboard production lines.

The two new containerboard production lines will be designed to produce high-quality testliner grades out of 100 percent recycled raw materials as the four production lines ordered last year. The start-ups of PM 43 and PM 45 are scheduled to take place within a few months’ timeframe in 2019. The start-ups of the four previous production lines are scheduled to take place a few months apart from each other starting from mid-2018.

The order of PM 45 is included in Valmet’s first quarter 2018 orders received and the order of PM 43 was included in Valmet’s third quarter of 2017 orders received. The value of the orders will not be disclosed. The value of an order of this type and scale is typically around EUR 90-110 million.

Technical details about the delivery

Valmet’s deliveries for PM 43 and PM 45 container board making lines are similar to the four previous ones. The deliveries will include steam and condensate systems, broke collection pulpers for stock preparation, a board machine from headbox to winder including a full scope automation package and process ventilation equipment.

The containerboard machines will include OptiSizer Combi sizers combining both film and pond application for both sides. Film application is an optimal solution for lower basis weight grades. Pond application is for substantially higher basis weight grades needing higher penetration. This combination gives flexibility and opportunities to optimize the properties of different grades.

As in the previous orders, the full scope automation packages include Valmet DNA process and machine controls and condition monitoring. Board final quality is managed with Valmet IQ quality control system, comprehensive range of profilers as well as web inspection and monitoring system. The deliveries comprise also modern analyzers from pulping and wet end to laboratory testing.

PM 43 and PM 45 will produce testliner grades with a basis weight range of 75-140 g/m2.

Transforming Industry 4.0 in a real revolution could only be possible if the change will start from the basis : not general enabling technology but rather machines intrinsically designed as capable to provide useful information.”
The challenge Fabio Perini faces is to complete its existing portfolio of offers with digital elements, integrating them in the new Industry 4.0 environment with the aim of increasing customers’ performance. Performance improvements will create benefits directly for the companies, and indirectly for the entire environment, which will benefit from the competitiveness of its players. In order to do so, integration between Data Analysis and Production systems is fundamental to build an efficient organization. 
“The next two years will see us concentrated in developing solutions related to the Digital to help our customers increase production efficiencies and enable them to integrate vertically with their processes and horizontally with their own value chain.” affirms Oswaldo Cruz.
Fabio Perini is already working together with some customers to implement the first solutions on-site for the intelligent factory and the concepts of Smart Machines, Smart Applications and Smart Services are already a reality that will be available for the Tissue industry in the next few months.
It will be a 2018 full of innovations which will mark a milestone in the tissue industry. We will begin to experience the transformation of the factories that apart from increasing their efficiencies, they’ll become intelligent and always more integrated in the chain value. Metsä Board’s Lidloc design gains further recognition with an iF Design Award 2018

Metsä Board, the leading European producer of premium fresh fibre paperboards, is pleased to announce that its revolutionary paperboard cup design, ‘Lidloc’, has won an iF Design Award at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the BMW Welt in Munich on 9 March.

The Lidloc design has broken new ground in paperboard cup design and recognises the increased focus upon developing sustainable packaging. The design has a patent pending and is based upon an extension to a standard cup structure that folds and locks into an integrated lid.

Cyril Drouet, Metsä Board’s Design & Innovation Director has worked closely on this exciting project with his design team. He explains the benefits of this innovative design : “We have designed this to be a one-piece construction that removes the need for a separate plastic lid. It is easy to fold and assemble with a secure lid-locking design. The integrated lid is spill proof and offers extra branding power as it can be printed as one piece with the rest of the cup. The lid also contains an integrated ‘sip’ mechanism for hot beverages as well as being ideal for cold drinks with a straw.”

Lidloc is an example of how Metsä Board develops lighter, more environmentally friendly and more efficient packaging and helps to use the potential of lightweight fresh fibre paperboards in an innovative way.

For over 60 years, the iF Design Award has been recognised the world over as a label for design excellence. The international high-profile jury assessed more than 6,400 entries from 54 countries to determine who would receive this coveted seal of design excellence.

Voith SpeedSizer AT means more speed for Smurfit Kappa's PM 6

A narrow time window, a size press operating at its maximum speed and the need for greater machine efficiency were the various challenges faced by the Voith team as it tackled the upgrade of the PM 6 at Smurfit Kappa. Thanks to excellent planning beforehand, the machine was restarted without problems one day ahead of schedule.

“The startup of the new SpeedSizer has shown how expertise and dedication bring about an excellent outcome. The project simply flew by,” says Jochem Meier, Manager Operations at Smurfit Kappa in Zülpich.

Smurfit Kappa wanted to achieve a higher production speed through its modernization of the PM 6 at the Zülpich mill. The company is one of the leading manufacturers of packaging in Europe. At its facility in Zülpich it produces premium quality testliner and recycled fluting in basis weights of 100 to 150 grams per square meter from 100 percent recovered paper.

Because the machine was only supposed to be shut down for a week for the conversion, detailed advance planning was absolutely essential for the success of the project. The excellent longstanding relationship between Voith and the customer facilitated this planning. For example, Voith’s service team had previously carried out maintenance on the PM 6 on an ongoing basis. However, the narrow time frame was just one of the challenges.

A key aspect of the project was the puddle-type size press. Equipped with a deflection compensation roll, it allowed an optimum CD profile of the nip load (linear contact pressure) and for a long time had guaranteed the high quality of the paper. But for technical reasons, the size press limited the production speed of the PM 6 to 1,150 meters per minute. Even though the size press was one of, or perhaps even the fastest in the world, it prevented the machine from being ramped up to the 1,225 meters per minute desired by the customer.

This is why Voith recommended installing a customized SpeedSizer AT with the existing Nipco deflection compensating roll system. This application system enables excellent coating and size profiles even at high speeds. Its use increases the operating window of the PM 6 and offers Smurfit Kappa more production flexibility. The SpeedSizer ensures an increase in the solids content of up to 17 percent and reduces the moisture ingress into the paper web. This results in a higher dry content downstream of the SpeedSizer AT, which helps substantially reduce drying energy and achieves much improved paper web running properties.

Voith used a Nipco roll that was already being used in the old puddle-type size press as a deflection compensation roll. Following comprehensive reconditioning, they now also ensure optimum CD profiles and consequently high paper quality in the new machine as well. The re-use of the previous rolls reduced the costs of the upgrade.

The new SpeedSizer AT plays a major role in reducing the energy consumption of the PM 6. Immediately, a 15 percent reduction in steam consumption could be achieved. The specific energy figures are of course also improved as a result of the higher production rate. A good startup is extremely helpful, because the completely closed water circuit at SK Zülpich Papier has to be evaporated again after a week of shutdown.

The use of the new UniFilm T applicator roll cover, which is very wear-resistant, ensures good metering rod service life and more efficient production. In the PM 6 they run for more than 400 hours, well above the average for comparable machines.

HiCon 2.0 in practice: Mpact benefits from increased capacity and reduced energy requirements

The premiere of HiCon 2.0 technology at the South African board and corrugated cardboard producer Mpact has shown that the potential of HiCon 2.0 is not just possible in the technology center but can also be achieved in practice. The new system incorporates InfiltraDiscfilters with HiCon 2.0 technology. Maggy Odayar, Technical Manager at Mpact, describes the results : "The disc filters have proven to be reliable, efficient and highly flexible in respect of inlet stock consistency and stock flow. Throughput is 15 percent higher than the planned rate.” Long-term tests show that consistencies of two percent can be sustained. The filters installed at Mpact can also readily handle consistency peaks of 2.5 percent. The upgrade of the components was an important element for increasing productivity of the entire system.

As part of the conversion of the company’s paper mill in Felixton to make production ’’greener’’, recovered paper fibers have been used instead of the sugar cane waste product bagasse since 2015. A machine rebuild was designed to increase the machine speed from 700 to 930 meters per minute, to achieve the goal of a 40 percent increase in production. For this project Voith executed an upgrade of the complete stock preparation unit. Since the completion of the rebuild in 2016, a vertical LC pulper with a capacity of 800 metric tons per day has been added to the existing drum pulper.

The new technology from Voith’s BlueLine range is the latest development of the disc filters, which began in 2012 with the launch of the BaglessPlus system and was followed by the HiCon technology in 2014. This new system not only allows the consistency of the stock flow in the inlet to be increased but also raises throughput by up to 20 percent. Filters equipped with HiCon have already demonstrated in a large number of applications in both new builds and upgrades that they are robust enough to readily handle high and strongly fluctuating stock consistencies in the inlet.

The HiCon 2.0 technology builds on these proven concepts but has added two core innovations : First, a sturdy system ensures that discs stay on track, which prevents damage of the segments. And second, each disc is fed separately, the flow pattern in the vat can be reversed. This prevents thickening of the pulp. In conventional disc filters, higher inlet stock consistencies inevitably result in a high degree of thickening in the filter vat. This is why most paper manufacturers dilute the stock flow upstream of the disc filters. This means higher water input and a higher demand of pumping energy.

Kenneth Nystén has a solid background in the pulp and paper industry, from various positions in companies such as Stora Enso and Metsä-Serla. He comes most recently from the Finnish chemicals company Kemira Oy. Kenneth Nystén was born 1958 in Espoo, Finland. He holds a Bachelor degree in Economics from Uppsala University and an MBA from Seton Hall University in the U.S.

“Kenneth is a driven business manager with a broad experience from leading positions within our industry, in particular the paperboard industry. His proven ability to create strong results and motivated sales teams, will be of great importance as we move forward and further develop our paperboard business” says Daniel Peltonen, President and CEO at Iggesund Paperboard.

The Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing is part of the Business Area Management team and reports to the President and CEO at Iggesund Paperboard.

ANDRITZ launches the world’s most modern research center for tissue

ANDRITZ has officially launched the world’s most modern research center for tissue, the PrimeLineTIAC Tissue Innovation and Application Center, in Graz, Austria. The opening ceremony, attended by around 150 customers and other stakeholders from the tissue industry, was a great success. Together with the ANDRITZ experts and technical partner companies, the participants discussed the functions, designs, and features of the new PrimeLineTIAC and took a guided tour through the pilot plant. Several guest speakers also gave interesting inside views on developments in the tissue industry.

Stora Enso issues new EUR 300 million bond

Stora Enso has successfully issued a new EUR 300 million bond under its EMTN (Euro Medium Term Note) programme. The bond matures in March 2028 and pays a fixed coupon of 2.5%. The issue price was 99.633, equivalent to a yield of 2.542% and Euro Mid-swaps +150 basis points. There are no financial covenants for the bond. The bond will be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

The bookrunners for the transaction are Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, and NatWest.

“Accelerated growth during the past four consecutive quarters while at the same time strengthening our balance sheet is yet another proof point of successful transformation, evidenced also by recent credit rating upgrades. Net debt to operational EBITDA has improved by 0.5 to 1.4 by the end of 2017. We will continue to manage our bond portfolio efficiently and proactively”, says Group Treasurer Martin Ros.
